PDA Support

Cybele-ME V1.0 is currently supported with only CybelePro V1.0

CybelePro with PDA, smart communicators, and embedded device support will be available with CybelePro v4.0. A limited version of CybelePro with only PDA support (Cybele-ME v1.0) is offered FREE for the existing customers of CybelePro.

An empty Cybele container without any agents and activities consumes only 15MB of memory, which is very light-weight compared to many other agent runtime environments, yet is powerful and robust with rich set of agent services. A PDA or handheld compared to a workstation has only limited resources. The Cybele-ME is a customized version of CybelePro that consumes only 5MB. It will be tailored for a wireless network-connected device environment. Certain restrictions will apply, such as:

• Only one Cybele container can be launched on an embedded device or PDA. This restriction makes agent communication service of CybelePro, which manages the communication between the containers, simpler and thus takes advantage of the limited available resources.

• The number of agents that can be launched in a container and the number activities that can be launched per agent are limited to accomodate the available resources. This makes event and thread management service of CybelePro simpler, light-weight and suitable for embedded devices.

In spite of the limitations, Cybele-ME will have new services that are also intended for future versions of CybelePro. One of the services will allow the Cybele-ME to communicate in an ad-hoc network. The other services will allow a computationally and communication demanding agent to seamlessly migrate to CybelePro environment on a workstation. An agent using Cybele-ME can also seamlessly interact with any agent that is hosted in a CybelePro envoronment.
